Union Veterans Council, AFL-CIO Blast GOP Lawmakers Blocking Landmark Toxic Exposure Bill

Republican lawmakers have yet again abandoned our troops by blocking the passage of the Sgt. 1st Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act in the U.S. Senate. The historic bill expands healthcare coverage for military veterans who were exposed to toxins and burn pits during their service.

Veterans organizations across the nation, from conservative to progressive, share in outrage that GOP Senators like Pat Toomey see fit that the veterans who fought for our country die from rare respiratory cancers associated with toxic exposure to burn pits from their service. Toomey led the charge against the historic Sgt. 1st Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act, calling it a “budgeting gimmick.” Any politician who views getting veterans the timely access to healthcare services and benefits they deserve as a gimmick is a national disgrace

Veterans lay their lives on the line to protect American freedoms. GOP Lawmakers have no qualms about sending soldiers to war but abdicate the responsibility of caring for those they have sent into harm's way upon their return to the very country they fought for.

Today we call on anyone that supports our veterans' community to call their senators and tell them that the American people truly care about our nation's heroes and to pass the PACT Act before it is too late.
