Union Veterans Support Joe Biden

Joe Biden (D)

Joe Biden is a champion of working families, a lifelong advocate for the middle class, and a dedicated supporter of America’s veterans. Joe’s dedication to improving the lives of working people and veterans is borne of his own life experiences. A proud son of Scranton, PA, Joe grew up in the middle class and viscerally understands that working families are the bedrock of this country. Later, he watched as his son Beau deployed to Iraq--for which Beau was awarded the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit.

Joe’s record reflects his commitments to organized labor and veterans: from co-sponsoring the post-9/11 GI Bill to reducing veterans homelessness by 50% and supporting a pro-union NLRB as Vice President. If elected, Joe will pass the PRO Act, improve VA accountability, and pass a public option to enable universal healthcare. Joe has also made his commitment to unions clear, and joined a UAW picket line during their strike last year. Joe will make union and veteran families proud as President by fighting for them with the full resources of his administration.

U.S. Senate

CAL CUNNINGHAM (D), NORTH CAROLINA

Cal Cunningham is the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in North Carolina, and a member of the Army Reserve. Cal served three active-duty tours, spending time in Iraq and Afghanistan. Protecting veterans’ is a central component of Cal’s platform; if elected, he plans to work to expand mental health coverage for veterans. He also is committed to protecting women who served from domestic violence. Cal is a defender of collective bargaining in North Carolina, and is proud to be endorsed by several local unions in the state--including the North Carolina AFL-CIO.

Mark Kelly

MARK KELLY (D), ARIZONA

Mark Kelly is the Democratic nominee for US Senate in Arizona. A former astronaut and Navy Captain, Mark served during the Gulf War as a naval aviator. He then flew four missions on the Space Shuttle. Since the attempted assassination of his wife, Gabrielle Giffords, in 2011, Mark has been a dedicated advocate for gun control. Mark is committed to veterans care and to improving services at the Phoenix and Tuscon VA centers. Additionally, as the son of union members, Mark is intimately familiar with the critical role unions play in protecting the livelihood of American families. If elected to the Senate, he will work to protect collective bargaining rights.

Sen. Gary Peters

SEN. GARY PETERS (D), MICHIGAN

Gary Peters is the junior senator from Michigan, serving since 2015. A member of the United States Navy Reserve, Senator Peters has worked tirelessly on behalf of veterans in Michigan and across the country. As a member of Congress, Senator Peters worked to improve financial security for veterans and protect veterans’ healthcare. Senator Peters serves on the Senate Armed Services committee, and believes that protecting America’s veterans is a key national priority. Senator Peters is also a firm believer in collective bargaining rights; he has worked to abolish unfair labor practices and protect unions in the Michigan auto industry.

U.S. House of Representatives

REP. JASON CROW (D), CO-06

Jason Crow has represented Colorado’s Sixth Congressional District since 2019. A former Army Ranger, Rep. Crow served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan; he was awarded the Bronze Star as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Since entering Congress, Rep. Crow has fought to protect and expand veterans’ health care. Jason opposes efforts to privatize the VA and supports efforts to protect veterans’ educational benefits. Rep. Crow also believes deeply in union organizing: in 2019, he stood alongside VA workers in Colorado to protect their collective bargaining rights.

Union Veterans Support Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick

REP. BRIAN FITZPATRICK (R), PA-01

Serving since 2017, Brian Fitzpatrick is a former FBI agent who served alongside US Special Forces during the Iraq War. Rep. Fitzpatrick has advocated to protect veterans’ educational benefits and expand access to mental health care. Rep. Fitzpatrick supports investment in US manufacturing as a framework to create new, good-paying jobs for workers. A strong believer in bipartisanship, Rep. Fitzpatrick is the only Republican Congressional candidate to be endorsed by the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.

Union Veterans Support Rep. Jared Golden

REP. JARED GOLDEN (D), ME-02

First elected in 2018, Jared Golden is a former Marine who served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Rep. Golden has been a staunch advocate for veterans in Congress; he passed an amendment through the House to increase funding for mental health treatment at the VA. In addition, Rep. Golden supported successful legislation to broaden protections for Navy veterans who suffered from exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. Rep. Golden has advocated to strengthen Maine’s shipbuilding industry, and helped lead the charge to pass the PRO Act in support of labor.

Union Veterans Support Rep. Chrissy Houlahan

REP. CHRISSY HOULAHAN (D), PA-06

A former Air Force Captain and third-generation veteran, Chrissy Houlahan was first elected to Congress in 2018. Rep. Houlahan serves on the House Armed Services Committee, and has been an advocate for women in the military. She spearheaded the successful effort to expand Women’s Health and childcare coverage through the National Defense Authorization Act. Rep. Houlahan also founded the Servicewomen and Women Veterans Cognressional Caucus.

Union Veterans Support Kai Kahele

KAI KAHELE (D), HI-02

Kai Kahele is currently a commissioned officer in the Hawaii Air National Guard and a decorated service member. An active-duty veteran for eighteen years, Kai is running on a platform to expand VA healthcare in Hawaii. He is working to establish additional VA rehabilitation centers and believes that there is an urgent need to address the ongoing veterans’ mental health crisis in this country. Kai is also a union member: as a current pilot for Hawaiian Airlines, Kai is a member of the Air Line Pilots Association. Kai believes that strengthening unions is critical in order to support workers and America’s broader economic health.

Rep. Conor Lamb

REP. CONOR LAMB (D), PA-17

Conor Lamb has represented Pennsylvanians in Congress since 2018. Rep. Lamb is a former Captain in the Marines, and is currently a Major in the Marine Corps Reserve. Rep. Lamb is a vice-chair of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, he has recently been working to protect National Guardsmen who have deployed to facilitate state responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rep. Lamb is also a proud defender of unions: he supports increasing wages and works to ensure that all workers have the right to collectively bargain.

Union Veterans Support Gina Ortiz Jones

GINA ORTIZ JONES (D), TX-23

Gina Ortiz Jones is a former Captain and intelligence officer in the Air Force. As a veteran, Gina receives her own health care through the VA. She believes in robust funding for the VA that facilitates patient-focused care for those who have served. If elected, Gina will also fight for union rights: she believes that an empowered labor movement is critical to improve wages, workplace conditions, and pension protections.

Rep. Max Rose

REP. MAX ROSE (D), NY-11

Max Rose has represented New York’s Eleventh Congressional District since 2019. Rep. Rose served with the US Army in Afghanistan as a member of the 1st Armored Division. Moreover, as a member of the New York National Guard, Rep. Rose recently deployed to support New York State’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Congress, Rep. Rose serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, sitting on the subcommittees on Health and Oversight and Investigations. A leader who strove to pass the PRO Act, Rep. Rose works to protect workers’ collective bargaining rights and expand federal labor protections.

Rep. Mikie Sherrill

REP. MIKIE SHERRILL (D), NJ-11

Mikie Sherrill is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and US Navy Lieutenant. A naval helicopter pilot for nearly a decade, Rep. Sherrill served in Europe and in the Middle East. Since entering Congress in 2019, Rep. Sherrill has fought to improve VA healthcare by supporting technological improvements to the VA system. Rep. Sherrill has also worked to facilitate the return of good-paying, middle-class jobs to her district by supporting the healthcare and biotechnology industries.
